Humility before men - Scriptures

Core Principle

Humility before people is not weakness. It is spiritual strength under control.


Jesus’ Example

  • Philippians 2:3–8

Jesus humbled Himself, took the form of a servant, and became obedient.

  • John 13:3–17

Jesus washed His disciples’ feet and said, “I have given you an example.”

  • Matthew 20:25–28

Greatness in the Kingdom is shown through serving, not dominating.

  • Luke 22:24–27

Jesus said the greatest should become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves.


Humility Toward Others

  • Romans 12:10

“In honour giving preference to one another.”

  • Romans 12:16

“Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble.”

  • Ephesians 4:1–3

Walk with lowliness, gentleness, patience, and bearing with one another in love.

  • Philippians 2:3–4

Do nothing from selfish ambition, but esteem others better than yourself.

  • Colossians 3:12–13

Put on humility, meekness, longsuffering, and forgiveness.

  • 1 Peter 5:5

“All of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility.”


Humility in Honour and Promotion

  • Proverbs 15:33

“Before honour is humility.”

  • Proverbs 18:12

“Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honour is humility.”

“By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honour and life.”

  • Luke 14:7–11

Take the lower place. “He who humbles himself will be exalted.”

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”


Humility in Leadership

  • Numbers 12:3

Moses was very humble, more than all men on the face of the earth.

  • 1 Kings 3:7–9

Solomon humbled himself, admitting he needed wisdom to lead.

  • Acts 20:18–19

Paul served the Lord with all humility and many tears.

  • 2 Corinthians 10:1

Paul appeals by the meekness and gentleness of Christ.

  • 1 Thessalonians 2:6–8

Paul did not seek glory from men but was gentle among them.


Humility in Speech and Relationships

  • Proverbs 15:1

“A soft answer turns away wrath.”

  • Proverbs 29:23

“A man’s pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honour.”

  • James 3:13

Wisdom is shown through meekness.

  • James 1:19–20

Be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

  • Titus 3:2

Speak evil of no one, be peaceable, gentle, and show humility to all men.


Strong Preaching Thought

Humility before men does not mean you lose authority. It means your authority is safe in God’s hands.

Pride demands position. Humility carries presence.

Pride needs to be seen. Humility can serve unseen and still remain secure.
