🕊️ Mini 5-Minute Sermons on Tithing

Series: From Abraham to the New Testament

1. The First Tither: Abraham’s Response to Grace

Scripture:

“And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him... and Abram gave him a tenth of everything.”
Genesis 14:18–20 (NKJV)

Revelation: Tithing didn’t begin with the Law—it began with gratitude. Abraham tithed before Moses ever wrote a commandment. He wasn’t paying a tax; he was responding to blessing. Melchizedek represented Christ—bread and wine, covenant and communion. **Abraham tithed to a person, not a system.**

Application: Every time we tithe, we’re declaring: “My source isn’t The World, my job or leader. My source is God.” The tithe is worship, not obligation. It reminds your heart who your blesser is.

Declaration:

“God Most High, You are the possessor of heaven and earth. I return the tithe in worship and faith, not law and fear.”

2. Open Windows, Not Closed Wallets

Scripture:

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse... and prove Me now in this,” says the Lord,
“if I will not open for you the windows of heaven...”
Malachi 3:10–12 (NKJV)

Revelation: Malachi wasn’t about God taking—He was opening.

Use the key to open the door!!!!

“Prove Me” means “test Me.” God’s challenge is partnership, not punishment. He doesn’t need our money; He wants our alignment.

Application: The tithe positions us for flow. It connects the storehouse to the warehouse of heaven. When we withhold, we block the pipeline. When we bring, heaven breathes.

Declaration:

“I tithe because I trust. Heaven is open over my life, my work, and my church.”

3. The Blessing Outlives the Battle

Scripture:

“Here mortal men receive tithes, but there He receives them, of whom it is witnessed that He lives.”
Hebrews 7:8–9 (NKJV)

Revelation: The writer of Hebrews shows tithing didn’t die with the Old Covenant—it lives because Jesus lives. When we give, He receives. The same Melchizedek priesthood Abraham honoured is fulfilled in Christ. Tithing is resurrection-era worship.

Application: Your tithe leaves your hand but enters His. It’s recorded in heaven as worship, not transaction. You don’t tithe to a church; you tithe through it—to Him.

Declaration:

“Jesus, my High Priest, I honour You with my tithe. You are alive, and my giving lives with You.”

4. The Covenant Connection

Scripture:

“Christ has redeemed us from the curse... that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ.”
Galatians 3:13–14, 29 (NKJV)

Revelation: If you’re in Christ, you’re Abraham’s seed. That means his faith, covenant, and honour pattern belong to you. The tithe isn’t old-fashioned—it’s covenant continuity. Sons walk like their father.

Application: Abraham tithed out of faith and friendship. You and I do the same. The tithe says: “I’m in the same covenant flow. The same God who blessed Abraham blesses me.”

Declaration:

“I’m Abraham’s seed through Christ. I honour God with my tithe, and the blessing flows unhindered in my life.”

5. Grace Makes Givers, Not Hoarders

Scripture:

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor,
that you through His poverty might become rich.” – 2 Corinthians 8:9
“He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly... for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:6–7

Revelation: Grace didn’t cancel giving—it supercharged it. Under grace, we give beyond law, not beneath it. Tithing becomes the floor, not the ceiling. We don’t give to get; we give because we’ve already received.

Application: The tithe says “God owns it all.” The offering says “God, use it all.” Grace turns obligation into overflow.

Declaration:

“Lord, I give freely, joyfully, and expectantly. Grace makes me generous.”

đź’ˇ Summary Flow:

  1. Abraham → Gratitude and Covenant
  2. Malachi → Open Windows
  3. Hebrews → Jesus Receives
  4. Galatians → Covenant Continuity
  5. Corinthians → Grace Overflow

🕊️ Biblical Outline of Tithing

Tithing is not a fundraising mechanism; it’s covenant partnership.
It began as worship, was codified as order, fulfilled in Christ, and continues as a flow of honour and faith.

I. THE ORIGIN — FAITH BEFORE THE LAW

Genesis 14:18–20 (KJV)

“And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.”
  • Abraham gave a tenth to Melchizedek, priest of the Most High God.
  • This predates Moses — no law, only faith and revelation.
  • Hebrews 7:1–10 reveals Melchizedek as a type of Christ, proving tithing transcends the Law.
  • Key Point: Tithing began as a faith response to blessing, not a command.

II. THE ESTABLISHMENT — THE LAW AND THE COVENANT

Leviticus 27:30

“And all the tithe of the land… is the LORD’S: it is holy unto the LORD.”
  • Under Moses, the tithe became holy order in the covenant community.
  • Numbers 18:21–24: Supported the Levites who had no land inheritance.
  • Deuteronomy 14:22–29: Outlines three tithes (Levites, Feasts, Poor).
  • Key Point: God designed tithing as His economic system for ministry and mercy.

III. THE REBUKE — WHEN THE HEART FAILS

Malachi 3:8–10

“Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me… in tithes and offerings.”
  • Israel’s neglect was spiritual rebellion, not bookkeeping error.
  • The curse was self-inflicted disconnection from covenant flow.
  • God’s call: “Prove me now…” — the only time He invites testing.
  • Result: “I will open you the windows of heaven.”
  • Key Point: Tithing keeps the covenant channel open for blessing.

IV. THE FULFILMENT — FAITH UNDER GRACE

Matthew 23:23

“These ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.”
  • Jesus affirmed the tithe but demanded justice, mercy, and faith.
  • Under grace, giving is heart-led, not law-bound.
  • Hebrews 7:8: “Here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them…”
  • Christ now receives tithes as our High Priest in heaven.
  • Key Point: The tithe didn’t end at the cross — it graduated into priesthood.

V. THE EXPANSION — GRACE ABOUNDING IN GIVING

2 Corinthians 9:6–8

“He which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully…”
  • Paul expands giving into sowing and reaping by grace.
  • The tithe is now the floor, not the ceiling.
  • Luke 6:38: “Give, and it shall be given unto you…”
  • Key Point: Grace giving multiplies; it’s Spirit-directed abundance.

VI. THE PURPOSE — HONOUR AND TRUST

Proverbs 3:9–10

“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.”
  • Tithing is about honour, not loss.
  • It declares: “God is my source.”
  • The tithe sanctifies the rest and breaks fear, greed, and lack.
  • Key Point: Tithing is how believers maintain trust and partnership with God.

| Covenant Stage | Scriptural Example | Focus | Outcome | |----------------|--------------------|--------|----------| | Before Law | Abraham – Gen. 14 | Faith & Gratitude | Blessing & Covenant | | Under Law | Moses – Lev. 27 | Order & Holiness | Provision & Justice | | Prophets | Malachi 3 | Covenant Faithfulness | Open Heavens | | Christ | Matthew 23 | Faith & Mercy | Divine Approval | | Grace Era | Hebrews 7, 2 Cor. 9 | Heart & Harvest | Overflow |

FINAL THOUGHT

The tithe is the believer’s declaration: “You are Lord over the 100.”
It’s not about paying bills — it’s about keeping the flow open.
In the kingdom, tithing is how we stay blessed, not how we buy favour.
