Leila Homozi - Think like the top 1%

Source note: 03 All Notes/Leila Homozi - Think like the top 1%.md

Think less.

Stop Thinking

Avoid binary thinking - black and white/good and bad

  • ‘and’ not ‘or’
  • ‘and’ leaves room for nuance
  • this person did something bad ‘AND’ they did something great
  • I am successful ‘and’ I am trying to figure this out
  • Use AND statements in my darkest moments.
  • Builds mental flexibility

Inversion thinking

  • overthinking creates over confidence - makes us feel better - not makes us do better
  • overthinking is procrastination
  • Inversion - what can I do avoid failure?
  • What would I do to guarantee ministry failure?
  • How to succeed - do the opposite…
Ministry Failure
  • sin
  • mistreat people
  • dishonour people
  • quit
  • become lazy
  • be a terrible leader
  • be a crap father and husband
  • become full of faith

Think around failure - stop trying to think about how to get success

Sticking with bad decisions because you have invested in them

Stop protecting my ego If I had nothing invested in this…would I still start this today? What serves me today that costs me yesterday. Cost is not a reason keep suffering.

Most people try to fix everything at the same time.

Identify a bottleneck. Bottleneck - one limiting factor that restricts your growth. Most people try and change things because they enjoy change but they don’t focus on the thing that would really change the outcome.

Constraint Thinking is how you create breakthroughs

What is the constraint? Get rid of something… Tackle why the cold shoulder happens (in my marriage)

Breakthrough - Doing the right thing in the right moment. What is the one constraint holding you back at the moment?

One thing that you would change would give you the most leverage?

  • Read your Bible. Study your Bible. Pray everyday in tongues.
  • This is the one thing I avoid.

When EMOTIONS spike so do all the errors in your decision making.

Emotions are the top reason we make bad mistakes. Fear. Overthink and too much work to try and avoid a mistake. Stress. In order to relieve stress usually a bad decision. Anger - reactive

RULE - If you feel emotional do not make a decision. Only make a decision when you are content

Content:

  • Don’t feel urgency
  • Not is a state of fear
  • Not feeling wound up
  • Not feeing stressed

If I feel emotional - I don’t decide. Don’t make a quick decision. Wait for the clarity.

Time Horizon needs to be long enough

99% of people fail because people can’t stick long enough on the plan. Gets hard people think the plan isn’t working.

Stick with the plan.

The plan works unless the data proves otherwise.

Is the timeline realistic?
